George Daly Memorial Courts

The George Daly Memorial Courts were built in and donated to the town of Lavallette, NJ in 2017.  We thought there was no better way to honor George’s memory and his love of basketball than to renovate the courts there that had fallen into disrepair. George spent many hours on those courts every summer. He was a dedicated athlete but was first and foremost a phenomenal teammate and friend and always played with heart.

The court renovation includes two basketball courts and two volleyball courts and they have greatly improved the bayfront area of Lavallette. The courts have since become a gathering place for players of all ages and have served as the base for The Park League, which is a summer basketball league established in 2018.  Teams with players ranging from high school to college age play several times a week and the season culminates in playoffs at the end of the season with the champions receiving the Daly Trophy.

The Daly family also established the annual George Daly Memorial Park League Scholarship and that is awarded each summer to a college bound player selected from within the Park League’s ranks. The courts and the scholarship serve to honor George’s memory and bring the “Shine Like George” philosophy to the beachside town where George spent many of his summers.
